Data from: Greenhouse gas fluxes from two drained pond sediments: a mesocosm study

Ponds can store large amounts of organic matter (OM) in their sediments, often accumulated over long periods of time. Sediment OM is largely protected from aerobic mineralization under water saturated conditions but are vulnerable when exposed to oxygen during periods of drought. As climate change progresses, drought periods are likely to occur more frequently and may affect OM mineralization, and thus the release of greenhouse gases (GHGs) such as carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) from pond ecosystems. Therefore, we aimed to test how GHG emissions and concentrations in the sediment respond to drought by gradually decreasing water levels to below the sediment surface. To this end, undisturbed sediment cores from two small ponds with distinct watershed and water chemistry characteristics were incubated in mesocosms for 118 days at 20°C. Water levels were sequentially tested at 3 cm above the sediment surface (Phase I) and at the level of the sediment surface (Phase II). In Phase III, water levels were continuously lowered either by evaporation or by active drainage including evaporation. Mean CH4 fluxes of both ponds were high (21 and 87 mmol m-2 d-1), contributing 90 and 96% to the GHG budget over the three phases. The highest CH4 fluxes occurred in Phase II, while active drainage strongly reduced CH4 fluxes in Phase III. A multivariate analysis suggests that dissolved organic carbon and sulphate were important drivers of CH4 fluxes in Phase III. CO2 and N2O fluxes also responded to declining water levels, but their contribution to the GHG budget was rather small. Both gases were primarily produced in the upper sediment layer as indicated by highest concentrations at 5 cm sediment depth. Compaction of sediment cores by water level lowering increased bulk density and maintained high water contents. This side effect, retarding the drying of the sediment surface, was possibly relevant for the GHG net emission of the sediments in Phase II and III. Overall, GHG fluxes from the sediments exhibited high sensitivity to falling water levels. This study suggests that drying pond sediments have great potential to emit large amounts of GHGs to the atmosphere in the event of drought, representing hot spots of GHGs in the landscape.

Design strategies for stack-based piezoelectric energy harvesters near bridge bearings

FE data contains the Ansys Mechanical APDL input files (*.txt) and the recorded time series results for the different load cases and stiffnesses of the COMBIN14 element representing the piezoelectric Energy harvesting system (*.csv). A "," is used as a delimiter between the individual columns and a "." is used as the decimal separator. In addition the simulation results used to generate the figures 10, 12, 13 and 14 are provided as MATLAB *.mat files containing input Parameters, time series data and the converted energy. Determination of the bentonite content in molding sands using AI-enhanced electrical impedance spectroscopy

MUT-InfoMo data contains the measured raw impedance data recorded by Agilent E4980A LCR meter in a frequency range from 20 Hz to 1 MHz, along with water content and sample density. The measuring cell consists of two opposing electrodes embedded within the inner wall of a cylindrical chamber with a diameter of 5 cm. The electrodes, made from C45 steel, are insulated from the chamber walls using retaining rings fabricated from polyetheretherketone (PEEK). The measurements were performed at laboratory conditions. Columns from 1:201 are the real components of Impedance spectrum. Columns from 202:402 are the negative imaginary component of Impedance spectrum. Column 403 is the water content, column 404 is the density, column 405 is the target variable bentonite content. Finally, an excel data files was stored, with which the FCNNs were trained and tested.

ECT data, impedance data and temperature data presented in “Non-invasive temperature monitoring in fixed-bed reactors by electrical capacitance tomography"

The stored ZIP-file contains following three folders: ECT_data: contains the ECT data of the experiments shown in the paper. For each measurement the reference capacitances for the low and high calibration of the ECT measuring system, the recorded raw capacitances, the reconstructed normalized pixel permittivities as well as the corresponding time vector are provided for the different materials. In case of the catalyst FCDS_LQ3 also the calculated pixel temperatures are provided. The averaging over time as done in the paper has not been performed with the data provided here. Electrical_impedance_data: contains the recorded impedance data used for investigating the permittivity-temperature relationship of the different materials examined. Thermocouple_data: contains the temperature measurement data recorded with a thermocouple centered in the fixed-bed at the height of the measuring electrodes. This data was used for comparison with the pixel temperatures calculated from the ECT for the catalyst FCDS-LQ3

In-situ monitoring of used-sand regeneration in foundries by impedance spectroscopy

MUT 1 to MUT 4 data contains the measured raw impedance data recorded by Agilent E4980A LCR meter in a frequency range from 20 Hz to 1 MHz. The measuring cells used are a cylindrical plate capacitor with plate spacing 4 cm and plate diameter 13 cm and a cylinder capacitor with an electrode spacing of 1 cm and an electrode height of 10 cm (name: laboratory data). MTP 0 to 5 data contains the measured raw impedance data of used-sand regenerated in a used-sand regenerator recorded by Agilent E4980A LCR meter in a frequency range from 20 Hz to 1 MHz (name: field data). The measurements were performed at laboratory conditions. A tabstop is used as delimiter between the columns in all txt-files. In addition, the measurement logs are stored as pdf files, so that the filling quantities of the individual measurements can also be traced. Finally, a matlab code listing is presented that describes the matlab programs used to evaluate the presented data (name: code listing). A description of the data can be found in the article "In-situ monitoring of used-sand regeneration in foundries by impedance spectroscopy".

Original Data of Publication "q-analogs of group divisible designs"

A well known class of objects in combinatorial design theory are group divisible designs. Here, we introduce the q-analogs of group divisible designs. It turns out that there are interesting connections to scattered subspaces, q-Steiner systems, packing designs and q^r-divisible projective sets. We give necessary conditions for the existence of q-analogs of group divisible designs, construct an infinite series of examples, and provide further existence results with the help of a computer search. One example is a (6,3,2,2)_2 group divisible design over GF(2) which is a packing design consisting of 180 blocks that such every 2-dimensional subspace in GF(2^6) is covered at most twice.

Original data of the publication: Capacitive gas-phase detection in liquid nitrogen

These data sets are raw simulated and measured data belonging to the article 'Capacitive gas-phase detection in liquid nitrogen' in the open-access peer-reviewed journal of Sensors and Sensor Systems (JSSS). The simulated data consists of the electrical field strength in every three-dimensional element for different fill levels of the receptacle and for a bubble stream inside the receptacle. Also, the points of the boiling curve are given. The measured data represents the ratio of the measured capacitance to a known capacitor for electrodes 1-3 and 2-5 for different measurements. It also includes the fill level values over time taken from the video as well as an important part of the respective video.

Raw impedance data for microplastic detection

MUT-Microplastic data contains the measured raw impedance data recorded by Agilent E4980A LCR meter in a frequency range from 20 Hz to 2 MHz for the static measurement and the frequency point 2 MHz for the dynamic measurement. The measuring cell used in the static setup is a cylindrical capacitor with electrode spacing 0.6 cm and electrode height 10 cm. The sensor principle for the dynamic setup is based on a parallel plate capacitor. The measurements were performed at laboratory conditions. A tabstop is used as delimiter between the columns in all txt-files.
